Car Fire Erupts in Front of Library

Plainview firefighters quickly put down smoky blaze; no one hurt.

Plainview firefighters quickly extinguished a car fire Saturday afternoon that broke out in front of the Plainview Library.

A Plainview firefighter actually spotted the fire and alerted headquarters, which responded with several crews. The car's engine compartment was ablaze and smoke billowed across Old Country Road.

Firefighters engaged their booster line and put down the flames quickly, firefighters said.

Nassau County Police responded with multiple units and closed off Old Country Road in the vicinity of the Plainview Library in both directions. The scene was secured about 6 p.m. and the road re-opened.

No one was hurt in the fire, firefighters said.
