Cops: Homeless Man Takes Phone, Answers Victim's Call

Suspect demands $20 for phone's return; arrest made at Hicksville train station.

A homeless man has been charged with grand larceny after the victim called her own cell phone and the man answered the call, demanding money, Nassau County Police said.

The victim, 22, had called her own number in hopes of locating the missing phone. To her surprise, the call was picked up by Lamont Holloway, a homeless man. Holloway, 46, told the victim he would return her phone in exchange for $20, police said.

The parties agreed to meet at the Hicksville LIRR train station where Holloway refused to produce the phone but demanded the $20. An argument ensued and officers from the Second Precinct responded, placing Holloway under arrest without incident at about 3 p.m. Thursday.

The phone was not recovered.

Holloway is charged with attempted grand larceny and will be arraigned on Friday,  at First District Court in Hempstead.
