At about 10:40 a.m. Friday, and police responded to the collision on Jericho Turnpike in front of Stop and Shop in Woodbury.

One person had to be transported quickly to Nassau University Medical Center, so police called in a helicopter.

"It was going to land at Whitman Elementary School, but the kids were having their field day today," said Syosset Fire Department First Assistant Chief Pete Silver.

"I was quite a sight because there's not a lot of room there, but [the pilot] did a great job. Landed right on the yellow line."

Two people were sent to Nassau University Medical Center, while a third was transported to Syosset Hospital for treatment. Police and fire officials secured the scene and normal traffic was restored by 11:10 a.m., said Silver.

Those medivac pilots are hot stuff, real pros. I once saw them land on route 109 in Farmingdale. They came in slow over one set of wires, hovered and dropped down, then crossed UNDER the second set of wires, landing right on the double yellow line. Slow, smooth, cautious, and precise the whole time.
