Cops: Plainview Bank Robber Nabbed

Hicksville Man charged with 2 bank jobs 3 months apart; Plainview banks are next to each other.

Nassau County Detectives have arrested a Hicksville man in connection with two bank robberies a block apart this year in Plainview, including one Saturday.

Robbery Squad detectives report the arrest of Evan Kerpen, 34, of 23 Myers Ave., Hicksville on four counts of robbery in connection with Saturday's heist at the Bank of America on South Oyster Bay Road and a January bank job at the TD Bank on Old Country Road.

The two banks are virtually next to each other, a short block apart on South Oyster Bay Road.

According to police, the first bank robbery took place on Jan. 17, at 2:55 P.M. at the TD Bank at 500 Old Country Road. The suspect wearing a hooded jacket hat and glasses passed a note to a teller demanding money. He got away with cash and fled behind the parking lot.

Then, on Saturday just after 9 a.m., a man armed with a black handgun entered Bank of America at 565 South Oyster Bay Road, presented a note demanding cash and made off with U.S. currency.

No one was hurt in either robbery.

Kerpen's arrest was announced Tuesday morning; police could not offer specifics on how they were led to the suspect.

Kerpen will be arraigned later Tuesday. He is charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and two counts of third-degree robbery in connection with each bank robbery.
