Cops: Teen Driver in Crash Charged with DWI

Plainview man was drunk at the wheel when he crashed on Jericho Turnpike, police report.

A Plainview man who was at the wheel of a car that crashed and injured a teenage passenger has been charged with DWI, according to Nassau County Police.

Police said William Kapp, 18, was driving a 2006 Buick east on Jericho Turnpike in Syosset when he lost control of the car and struck the center median. The car flipped and landed in a wooded area near the westbound Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway ramp, police said.

The incident happened at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, cops reported.

Kapp and his passenger, an unidentified female 17-year-old, were rushed to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police reported.

An investigation determined Kapp was driving while intoxicated and he was placed into custody, cops said.

Kapp is charged with DWI, second-degree assault, and second-degree vehicular assault. He is currently hospitalized and will be arraigned as soon as practical, police said.
