Crime and Fire Department Week in Review

Plainview Patch reports recent area crimes and arrests.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Assault

The Second Squad reported the details of an assault that occurred in Hicksville on Monday July 4 at 1:18 a.m.

According to the detectives a 34-year-old man was on his way home from the Hicksville train station and was walking through a private parking lot located at the rear of 55 Broadway, when three unknown men approached him. One produced a knife and slashed the victim in the left arm and hand. The victim was taken by police ambulance to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Nassau County detectives arrested Jonny Turcios, 23, of 100 E. Marie St., Hicksville, in connection with the attack.  Turcios is charged with second-degree assault and possession of a dangerous weapon, police said.

Fatal Vehicular Accident

The Eighth Squad reports the details of a fatal vehicular accident that occurred in Plainview on Monday July 4 at 8:59 p.m.

According to the detectives, Michael Sklarsky, 51,  of Massapequa was operating a 1992 Honda south in the right lane of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway when he struck a 2011 Hyundai being operating by a 62 year old female in the center lane. Sklarsky’s vehicle then left the roadway traveling up an embankment, striking a tree and continuing through a fence. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on West Lane Drive in Plainview. The victim was taken to an area hospital and subsequent investigation revealed he was operating under the influence of alcohol. The victim was pronounced dead on July 5 at 6:04 a.m.

Plainview Firefighters Respond

On July 5, an early morning one-car crash in Plainview sent one victim to an area hospital. , including Chief of Department , responded to the 5 a.m. crash on South Oyster Bay Road at Audrey Avenue. units were also on the scene of the rollover, which involved only one vehicle. One victim was injured and transported to an area hospital by Nassau Police Ambulance. The condition of the victim could not be learned. The cause of the crash was under investigation.

On July 6, Plainview firefighters responded to an overturned auto mobile Wednesday night involving four area teenagers. The car carrying the young people had flipped over about 9:30 p.m. on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway near Exit 11, the Wallace Drive exit that leads to Southern Parkway in Plainview. The cause of the crash was not clear Thursday. Plainview firefighters converged on the scene in force and found the overturned vehicle in the center lane of the roadway. The four teenagers were sitting outside the vehicle. All four were transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow with non-life threating injuries. Firefighters cleared the scene.
