Crime Nearby: Man Arrested in $14,000 Theft

Wantagh

A Suffolk man was arrested by Nassau County police at the late Friday night on a felony warrant. At the time of his arrest, officers found Jonathon Lewis, 26, of Wheatley Heights in possession of a box containing approximately $14,000 worth of electronics.

According to police, Lewis had smashed the window of a Lexus in Seaford the day before and removed the items from the car. The victim, who had filed a report, identified the property as his. The defendant gave officers a false name and could not produce identification. Lewis is being charged with grand larceny 3rd degree, criminal mischief 4th Degree and false personation.

Merrick

For the third time in a little more than two weeks, a Merrick Verizon has been broken into, and items have been stolen.

According to Nassau County Police, a paving brick was thrown through the front door of , located at 2132 Sunrise Highway just before 3 a.m. Thursday. The two men entered the store and stole an unspecified amount of cell phones and other electronics. They then fled the scene on bikes.

Long Beach

Two men were arrested early Monday morning after allegedly threatening another man with an extendable baton and a stun gun and then robbing him in Oceanside.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 12:04 a.m., the 22-year-old male victim was standing in front of a home when he was dragged inside the residence by the defendants Kyle Mclaughlin, 25, of Long Beach along with another suspect. Once inside, Mclaughlin displayed an expandable baton and the other suspect displayed a stun gun when they went through the victim's pockets and took prescription medication that belonged to the victim, police said. Both defendants fled in a white Mercedes Benz.

A short time later Fourth Precinct officers arrested both defendants without incident, police said. No injuries were reported.

Lindenhurst

Nassau County Police have arrested a Lindenhurst man in connection with several sexually explicit acts with a 13-year-old girl, beginning with a forcible touching incident August 9 at the .

Rashid M. Aziz, 25, faces several charges, including disseminating indecent material to a minor; possession of an obscene sexual performance by a child; unlawful imprisonment; forcible touching; and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Yaphank

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of Joseph Chancellor of Rocky Point, whose body was found at the Eastern Resources Recycling center in Yaphank Thursday morning.

Chancellor, 42, was found among refuse by employees at 6:55 a.m, police said. The body and refuse had just been discarded at the facility by a garbage truck.

Speonk

say they have arrested a 32-year-old Speonk man who severely beat a woman with a pool stick, metal pipe and stool for several hours on July 26 in a Speonk home. Police said the man, Beswick A. Grizzle, has been charged with assault in the second degree and unlawful imprisonment in the first degree, both felonies.
