Crime Report: Church Robbed at Knife-Point; Burglaries

Patch reports on recent crimes reported in the Plainview and Syosset area.

Two women were confronted and robbed in a nearby church during Christmas week by a man who fled with cash.

detectives said the robbery occurred in Hicksville on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 9:15 p.m.

Two women, ages 47 and 26, were at the United Methodist Church at 130 W. Old Country Road, working in the church office.

A white man, described in detail as in his late 40’s, with gray/white beard, average build, wearing a black knit ski cap, dark gray waist length jacket and faded blue or gray pants, entered the church, pulled a knife and demanded money.

He took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled in an unknown direction, detectives said.

The Second Precinct reported the following crimes:

  • Dec. 21: Burglary; Center Nursing Home, Woodbury; cash, wallet stolen from car.
  • Dec. 21: Grand Larceny; Clarrissa Drive, Syosset; fraudulent activity.
  • Dec. 16: Petit Larceny; Southern Parkway, Plainview; lawn decorations stolen.
  • Dec. 26: Robbery: 50% - Off Card Store, Hicksville; cash stolen.
  • Dec. 21: Burglary: Kramer Street, Hicksville; pocketbook, perfume, cash stolen.
  • Dec. 22: Grand larceny: DPW Parking Lot, Hicksville, Traffic signal boxes stolen from yard.
  • Dec. 28: Robbery: Old Country Road, Hicksville; cash stolen.
  • Dec. 28: Grand larceny; Synergy Fitness, Syosset; gift cards, cash, wallet stolen.
  • Dec. 27: Grand larceny; Manetto Hill Road, Plainview; cash, credit cards, pocketbook stolen from car.
  • Dec. 29: Grand larceny; Haskett Drive, Syosset; pocketbook, checkbook, wallet stolen from auto.
  • Jan. 1: Criminal mischief; Lennox, Plainview; propane tanks stolen.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Nassau police arrested the following people:

  • Dec. 22: Doreen Varrichio, 57, charged with grand larceny, Warren Lane, Jericho.
  • Dec. 22: Patricia Marx, 53, charged with grand larceny, Warren Lane, Jericho.
  • Dec. 24: Christopher Crisci, 18, charged with attempted burglary, Jackson Avenue, Bayville.
  • Dec. 24: Allan Nunez, 17, charged with attempted burglary, Jackson Avenue, Bayville.
  • Dec. 28, 23, charged with grand larceny, Jamaica Avenue, Plainview.
  • Dec. 31: Casmir Rogus, 67, charged with reckless endangerment, Mill River Road, Oyster Bay.

Richard, I agree. This road has so many potholes that were fixed, it dips and the county trees haveRead More lifted it up in areas that now hold water. I have ben living here for over 30 years, and I cannot recall it ever being done. It needs to be done soon, I so agree with you. Maybe Mangano will see this and do something, then again if we lived in Bethpage, it would of been done already.
