Nassau County Police have charged an East Meadow man with striking a Hicksville restaurant employee over the head with a bar stool in a case dating to October.
Detectives charged Premaras Selvaratnam, 31, of 34 Ronni Drive, East Meadow, in connection with the Oct. 19, 2012 attack that left the victim without sight in his left eye.
According to detectives, Selvaratnam was in Hicksville's Copper Wok restaurant, located at 16 West Marie St. having dinner with friends when the group began causing a disturbance.
When the staff at the restaurant asked them to leave, Selvaratnam picked up . a bar stool and struck a male employee, 36, in the head. The attack caused lacerations to his head and an eye injury, police said.
The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for his injuries. The victim lost sight in his left eye due to the injury.
Following an investigation, Selvaratnam was placed under arrest without incident, police said.
He is charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and will be arraigned on Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
