Driver Leads Cops on Chase Into Farmingdale

Suspect flees traffic stop, leads police on chase before being apprehended.

Suffolk County Police captured two men in Farmingdale Wednesday who attempted to flee from a traffic stop in North Amityville.

Police said the incident began at Harrison and Albany avenues in North Amityville when officers attempted to pull over the driver of silver 2013 Volkswagen Passat.

But the driver pulled away and led police on a mid-day chase along the Nassau Suffolk border, police and eyewitnesses said. Nassau Police were alerted, including an aviation unit.

The driver was ultimately stopped at Albers Lane in South Farmingdale. The driver, Rashawn Pernell, 24, of Brandon Ave., North Amityville, was apprehended and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation and unlawfully fleeing.

His Passenger, Quinton Davis, 22, of Steele Place, Amityville, was charged with criminal trespass and criminal possession of marijuana, police said.

I was wondering what that helicopter was doing flying over Farmingdale for such a long time yesterday around 5:30 PM.

Is this related to the automated call I got from Supt. Lorentz? As a FHS parent, the communication was confusing; only said that "a suspect" was pursued at 2:00 in Farmingdale and apprehended at 2:30. Glad to be in the loop, but would have preferred more details.

MJR : That probably was a TV chopper, but we believe NPD aviation was involved. Checking further today. jd
