Driver Careens Into Pole, Tree

One-car crash in Old Bethpage Tuesday night leaves wires down; one victim is rushed to NUMC

A driver lost control of his vehicle, snapped a utility pole and crashed head-on into a tree Tuesday night in Old Bethpage, authorities said.

Plainview Firefighters and Nassau Police officers responded to a report of a car that had crashed into a tree on Old Bethpage Road at Gable Gate.

Arriving units discovered that the driver lost control and left the roadway, struck a utility pole and snapping it to ground level before smashing head-on into the tree.

The injured driver was removed from the vehicle and transported to Nassau University Medical Center by police ambulance, authorities said. His condition could not be learned this morning.

Firefighters determined that electrical wires to a home on Simpson Drive, directly behind the accident scene, had been pulled away from the home and were now lying exposed on top of a backyard shed.

LIPA was notified to respond on a rush to the scene, authorities said.
