East Meadow Man Charged in Shooting Death

Nassau and Suffolk county authorities reported the following incidents. An arrest is an accusation; it does not indicate guilt.

East Meadow:

An East Meadow man faces murder charges in connection with the shooting death of a Hempstead man, which took place on April 26.

Nassau County Homicide Squad detectives said they received a 911 call in the pre-dawn hours of April 26 of a man lying in the street on Martin Avenue in Hempstead. When police arrived they found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The man, identified as Stanley Cater, 47, of Hempstead, was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff at 5:39 a.m., police said

After an investigation, police arrested Herber Guzman, 40, of East Meadow. He has been charged with second degree murder.

Huntington

A Huntington Station man faces charges of selling DVDs containing scenes of bestiality, police said.

Ajith Managodage, 51, was charged with a misdemeanor count of obscenity in connection with the sale of a DVD from an adult video store in Huntington Station Thursday.

Investigators made the arrest at Pure Pleasure, located at 700 East Jericho Turnpike, where the suspect lives. Police said they were responding to complaints from the community.

Officers purchased the movies and played them in the parking lot on a portable DVD player. Police determined they contained scenes of bestiality and arrested Managodage.

Port Jefferson

Suffolk County police on Wednesday arrested four people who they say burglarized multiple homes in the Selden, Setauket, Miller Place and Port Jefferson areas

The burglary and arrests caused at Ward Melville High School and Arrowhead Elementary School.

Massapequa

A 16 year-old girl was attacked by a group who tried to steal her purse Thursday afternoon, police said.

The victim, who was walking home alone, was approached by a group of five or six girls who also appeared to be teens on Merrick Road near Ocean Avenue at about 3:20 p.m., police said.

One of the girls knocked the victim's books out of her hands and demanded she give them money. When the victim reached down to pick up her books, the girl then kicked the victim in the stomach and tried to grab the handbag. 

Nothing was taken and the victim wasn't hurt badly.

Massapequa Park

A Massapequa Park homeowner stumbled upon a burglary when he entered his house Monday morning, police said.

The owner of a home on Cypress street surprised the burglar, who ran out of the house and fled the scene in a car, shortly before 11:30 a.m.

It wasn't immediately known what if anything was taken, and nobody was hurt.

The owner called 911. Police did not immediately release a description of the burglar or the vehicle.
