Failed Bank Robbery at Plainview Chase

Cops seeking man in mid-20s who handed note to teller, then left without cash.

A would-be bank robber handed a Plainview bank teller a note demanding money but left before the teller could hand over any cash, authorities said.

Nassau County detectives are investigating Tuesday afternoon's attempted robbery at the Chase Bank at 404 Woodbury Road in the Plainvew Centre shopping mall

A man, described in his mid-20s, about 6-foot tall, wearing jeans and a green pullover sweater, entered the bank about 4:20 p.m. Tuesday and handed a note demanding money to the teller, detectives said.

But the suspect turned and left the bank suddenly without any cash. He was spotted walking away from the bank and through the parking lot, sporting sunglasses and a white baseball cap bearing a Nike logo, west toward South Oyster Bay Road.

There were 10 bank employees and four customers in the bank at the time of the attempted robbery. No one was hurt, police said.

Early Wednesday, police has not released any bank photos of the suspect or the incident.

Detectives are requesting anyone with information regarding this crime to contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls are confidential and all callers will remain anonymous, police said.
