Fire Erupts at TOBAY Recycling Plant

Plainview firefighters quickly put down blaze amid pile of electronic devices.

A scrap pile of recycled electrical devices ignited Tuesday at the recycling center in Old Bethpage.

responded to multiple calls for help shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

They arrived to find a pile of electronic scrap, including TVs, computers and other electrical components ablaze at the town-operated facility on Winding Road in Old Bethpage, firefighters said.

Plainview Engine 9511 quickly extinguished the flames.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. No one was hurt, authorities said.

The Town of Oyster Bay routinely collects recycled electronic devices and makes periodic announcements about the program and pick-up dates.
