Fire Marshals, Police Investigating Mystery Odor
Numerous reports from citizens reporting smell wafting across Plainview and Old Bethpage.
Numerous Patch readers reported a foul odor wafting over Plainview and Old Bethpage on Wednesday into Thursday and authorities are investigating.
Nassau County Police, contacted early Thursday, said they, too, had received numerous complaints and believed smell is coming from the Town of Oyster Bay's town dump off Sweet Hollow Road in Old Bethpage. That information could not be immediately confirmed, and police said they were unsure of the cause.
Fire Marshals have been contacted and will investigate the source of the odor at daylight Thursday, police said.
Police reported they do not believe the smell is in any way a threat to the community.
