Firefighters Respond to Chaos on South Oyster Bay Road

Two car wrecks, three blocks apart bring Plainview and Hicksville departments on a rush.

Two unrelated car wrecks just three blocks apart, including a Jeep into a local restaurant, demanded a combined response from Plainview and Hicksville firefighters on Thursday.

Firefighters said the first call was received at 2:44 p.m. reporting an overturned vehicle at South Oyster Bay Road and Eldorado Boulevard. Plainview firefighters rushed to the scene and assisted an injured occupant.

While working there, multiple calls began coming in for car crashes at nearby locations. Firefighters realized a second crash had occurred just blocks south of the first crash, firefighters said.

South Oyster Bay Road is the dividing line between the Hicksville and Plainview fire districts, as well as the zip codes for the two communities. The west side of the street is in Hicksville. Firefighters from both departments often team up along the roadway to help in emergencies.

Nassau Police transported the victim of the first crash to an area hospital. The victim's condition was not available.

Police were trying to determine the cause of the restaurant crash that left a large hole in the front of the building.
