Gaspar Saladino, 50-Year-Member, Named 'Honorary Chief'

Plainview Fire Department recognizes life-member with special honor.

Gaspar Saladino, who has served the Plainview Fire Department as a member for half a century, was honored this weekend as an "Honorary Chief."

Saladino, a 50-year life member, was presented with the white helmet signifying the rank of a Fire Chief and bearing his name and title. Emblazoned on the face plate is a gold insignia bearing five crossed bugles, the symbol of a "Chief of Department."

Saladino is only the second person to be awarded this honor for his service to
the Plainview Fire Department and the Plainview community, firefighters said.

The honor came as part of the Plainview Fire Department's annual installation dinner, which took place Saturday at the Huntington Hilton.
