Hicksville Man Gets 8 Years For Crowbar Attack

Jalaluddin Khojandi guilty in brutal attack on Southampton musician.

A Hicksville man who pleaded guilty to assaulting a Southampton musician with a crowbar in July 2011 in the parking lot of a Bayport bar was sentenced to eight years in prison on Wednesday.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said 26-year-old Jalaluddin Khojandi will be subject to five years of post-release supervision after serving his time in an upstate prison, and a permanent order of protection was ordered to keep Khojandi away from the victim, Mick Hargreaves, 40.

Hargreaves suffered cuts to his head — that had to be stapled shut — and two skull fractures during the assault.

Hargreaves was sitting in a vehicle with a woman in the parking lot of the Grey Horse Tavern — where he performed with his band hours earlier — when Khojandi, who knew the woman, confronted Hargreaves and attacked him, according to authorities.

Hargreaves was rushed in an ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, police said.

Khojandi drove off after the attack but was found about 12 hours later by police on patrol in Huntington Station, according to police.

After initially pleading not guilty in August 2011, Khojandi pleaded guilty May 11 to attempted first-degree assault with intent to cause serious injury with a weapon. His sentencing was originally scheduled for June 13, but it was adjourned several times before the eight years prison time became official Wednesday.

The Long Island music community rallied around Hargreaves to help pay his medical bills, putting on benefit concerts at The Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett and the Huntington Moose Hall.

Richard, I agree. This road has so many potholes that were fixed, it dips and the county trees haveRead More lifted it up in areas that now hold water. I have ben living here for over 30 years, and I cannot recall it ever being done. It needs to be done soon, I so agree with you. Maybe Mangano will see this and do something, then again if we lived in Bethpage, it would of been done already.
