Injured Worker Rescued from Bethpage Roof Top

Man suffers leg injury; tower ladder used to remove victim from construction site.

A man who was badly hurt in a construction accident was rescued Monday from the roof of a building on Hicksville Road in Bethpage, firefighters said.

Bethpage firefighters responded to the call at 11:23 a.m. and raised an aerial ladder to the roof of the Rainbow Media Building. There, they found a construction worker trapped under a heavy object on the roof. Firefighter worked to free the man from beneath the fallen object.

The man had suffered a severe leg injury, firefighters said. He was stabilized by EMTs on the roof and then carefully secured and lowered on a gurney by members of Bethpage Tower Ladder 3.

A waiting Nassau County Police ambulance transported the victim to Nassau University Medical Center. His condition was not immediately available, authorities said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The rescue operation was under the command of 2nd Assistant Chief Francis X DeBobes Jr.
