Man Charged with Wrong-Way Driving on LIE Service Road

Copiague man is stopped early Thursday on westbound service road in Jericho. Also accused of DWI.

A Suffolk County man was charged early Thursday with driving the wrong way on the westbound service road of the Long Island Expressway in Jericho.

A Nassau County Highway Patrol Officer observed Martin Peralta, 42, of 51 Stewart St., Copiague, driving his 1998 Acura eastbound in the left lane of the westbound Long Island Expressway Service Road at exit 40 in Jericho. The officer pulled over the defendant about 4:45 a.m. and determined he was operating under the influence of a alcoholic, police said.

Peralta was charged with reckless endangerment, driving while intoxicated with one prior conviction within 10 years, reckless driving, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, and numerous Vehicle and Traffic law violations.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on April 26, 2012.
