Man Claims to Have Bomb; Subdued After Robbing Bethpage Pharmacy

The Massapequa Park man targeted Walgreens store on Hempstead Turnpike early Monday, police say.

A Massapequa Park man, claiming to have a bomb, robbed a Bethpage Pharmacy early Monday but was then subdued by employees, Nassau County Police said.

Justin Roach, 21, entered the Walgreen's at 4120 Hempstead Turnpike and passed a note to the pharmacist in which he claimed to have a bomb, according to cops. He then leaped over the counter and stole several boxes of prescription medication and an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

Roach ran out the backdoor onto Hempstead Turnpike, but two store employees ran him down and subdued him until police arrived, police said.

Nobody was hurt and Roach had no weapons, police said. Roach was taken to the hospital for a condition unrelated to the robbery, according to cops.

He was charged with a felony count of first-degree robbery.
