Man Suffers Burns in Hicksville Fire

Kitchen fire probed at Oyster Bay Housing Authority apartments.

Members of the Arson Bomb Squad are investigating a fire at complex in Hicksville that left a 61-year-old man with serious burns.

The fire broke out Wednesday just before 6 p.m. in the kitchen of a residential apartment located at 355 Newbridge Road.

Hicksville Firefighters responded in force with about 100 members and 10 pieces of firefighting apparatus and quickly brought the blaze under control.

The victim, a resident of the apartment, suffered smoke inhalation and first and second-degree  burns to his arms and face, authorities said. He was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

The Housing Authority and the American Red Cross were at the scene and assisted at least several residents with temporary housing.

The Arson Bomb Squad and the Nassau County Fire Marshal are investigating the cause.
