A flipped car on the Long Island Expressway sent the driver to a local hospital and tied up traffic in both directions for more than an hour Thursday, authorities said.
The driver of a Toyota flipped over in the westbound lane, wedged against the LIE's concrete divider. The crash occurred just before the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway interchange, on the border between Plainview and Syosset.
Syosset firefighters and Nassau County Police responded and used hydraulic tools to free the driver from within the wreck.
The driver was transported to Nassau University Medical Center. Her condition could not be learned.
Traffic was delayed badly in both directions while emergency efforts were under way.
