Nassau Cop Hurt on Service Road by Hit-and-Run Truck

Detectives seek driver carrying pipes along eastbound service road at South Oyster Bay Road.

Police are searching for a truck driver who struck and injured a Nassau County Police officer on the Long Island Expressway's eastbound service road Monday.

Nassau detectives said the Nassau County Highway Patrol Officer was conducting a traffic stop on the South Service Road in Syosset shortly before noon when the truck, carrying pipes, struck the officer and threw him to the ground. The incident took place just west of South Oyster Bay Road near the Plainview border.

At the time, the officer's police cruiser had its emergency lights flashing and the officer was standing outside the vehicle. As the truck passed the officer was flung to the ground and the truck continued east without stopping.

The officer was able to radio for assistance and was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released for injuries to his head, neck and back.

Detectives request anyone with information regarding the above accident to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
