New Photos of Lightning Storm Fury

Plainview Firefighters responded to multiple calls for help when a fierce storm hit area.

In a four-hour span last week, confronted 10 seperate emergencies as a fierce electrical storm ripped through the area.

New photos have emerged from the danger-laden duty that began at 6:30 p.m. June 9.

The first call came for wires down on Surry Lane. Nine additional calls followed by 10:31 p.m. that evening, firefighters reported.

The most serious call for help came after an electrical transformer exploded on Manetto Hill Road, where a main power line had fallen onto the roadway. Photos show the downed equipment burning a hole in the pavement.

Manetto Hill Road was closed both ways between Washington Avenue and Devonshire Court for most of the night while LIPA crews tried to repair and restore power to the area, Plainview firefighters said.
