Nor'easter Brings Further Damage to Plainview

Morton Village hit with outage, roads slick and dangerous. Plainview schools closed.

The Nor'easter brought additional misery to Hurricane-ravaged Plainview and much of Long Island, with brutal winds and snow cutting power to about 60,000 additional LIPA customers Island-wide.

Plainview schools are closed today. The Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School has lost power, Nassau County officials said. That means the county's emergency shelter located at the former high school is shut down Thursday.

Morton Village has lost power and ShopRite there is operating on a generator. Trio Hardware is operating, however. They have a full stock of storm-related needs and report hundreds of phone calls this morning from people in need.

Trees are reported down on Washington Avenue and near Plainview JFK High School.

The eastbound Long Island Expressway was closed at Exit 40 for an accident investigation Thursday morning. Some businesses in Plainview's industrial park, including a portion of Aeroflex, were without power.

"Old Bethpage was a disaster this morning," wrote Joe Nappi in a tweet to Plainview Patch. "Branches bent and broken, trees down and low-hanging power lines everywhere."

Please let us know if your street or neighborhood was impacted by this new storm, and how.

Patch is asking LIPA for fresh information on when the remaining area outages will be addressed.

We need your voices attached to this story. Also, direct questions to LIPA officials here.

Editor's Note: Please upload the latest storm damage photos here. Could someone upload photos of the damage along Washington Avenue? Near JFK? Thanks. jd

Richard, I agree. This road has so many potholes that were fixed, it dips and the county trees haveRead More lifted it up in areas that now hold water. I have ben living here for over 30 years, and I cannot recall it ever being done. It needs to be done soon, I so agree with you. Maybe Mangano will see this and do something, then again if we lived in Bethpage, it would of been done already.
