People Sickened by Odor in Newtown Road Business

Plainview and area firefighters respond; buildings evacuated.

Two people were sickened by an unknown odor Friday at a Plainview office building off Newtown Road.

20 North Mall in Plainview's industrial park Friday afternoon. The two stricken people were transported to an area hospital and the buildings in the area were evacuated, firefighters said.

The cause of the odor is undetermined.

Plainview Firefighters were assisted by the Syosset Fire Department and Hazardous Materials units from Hicksville and Nassau County. Firefighters, using chemical meters determined that no noxious odors were present and that the odor had dissipated.The "all clear" was reported about an hour into the alarm.

The condition of the two sickened people, a man and woman,was no available.
