UPDATED: Person Struck by Train at Glen Street Station

Incident shut down Oyster Bay line for two hours Sunday night.

A 21-year-old man was hospitalized in stable condition Sunday night after he was struck by a Long Island Rail Road train at the Glen Street station, according to Glen Cove EMS.

Arnulfo Garcia was crossing the tracks near Burger King on Cedar Swamp Rd. at about 8:30 p.m. when he was hit, the MTA reported.

Garcia was treated at the scene for a broken pelvis and taken to the trauma center at Nassau University Medical Center in stable condition.

Glen Cove Police, MTA Police and LIRR officials responded to investigate. The area around the train station and the LIRR-Oyster Bay branch were shut down for two hours after the accident.

According to the MTA, Garcia was scratching a scratch-off lottery ticket and was "not cognizant" of the track gates being down when he walked past them. The gates, lights and sound signals were working properly, the MTA said.

"Apparently he walked past the down gates while scratching off a lottery ticket and the train caught his backpack and spun him around," said Glen Cove Police Det. Lt. John Nagle.

The train was entering the station at about 25 miles per hour when it struck Garcia.
