UPDATE: Photos Reveal LIRR Wreckage

Railroad now expecting near normal rush hour; delays and cancellations continue, however.

The Long Island Rail Road is now expecting a "near normal" rush hour Tuesday night following a train wreck earlier in the day.

The MTA says delays of 20 minutes are still being expected through the rush hour and some trains were cancelled because of overcrowding at Penn Station.

A wide range of emergency crews scrambled to the scene of a train crash Tuesday that caused a service suspension and 60-90 minute delays earlier in the day.

The Westbury Fire Department responded to the rear of a Prospect Avenue building to a call for work trains that had collided and derailed.

The crash just before noon injured at least four workers, including two who had to be extricated from the train and transported to NUMC, authorities said

The collision also caused a large diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid leak and the Hicksville Fire Department's Hazardous Materials unit was called to the scene along with Haz Mat units from the Fire Marshal's office and the Nassau County and MTA police.

Train service was shut down on the main line in both directions. Limited service with major delays are ongoing through Tuesday afternoon.

Westbury Fire Department 2nd Assistant Chief Kenneth Gass, Jr. was in command of the operation, firefighters said.
