Chase Ends in Crash on Radcliffe Road

Police chase driver of Saab through streets of Plainview; vehicle crashes along side Rte. 135.

A driver fleeing Nassau County Police in the vicinity of the has crashed on Radcliffe Road along side the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway, authorities said.

The chase began near Wallace Drive at the exit to Route 135 when police attempted to pull over a Saab. The vehicle was being stopped because it showed signs of recent damage, according to police reports monitored from the scene. 

The chase turned northbound on Radcliffe Road, the street running parallel to Route 135. The Saab was reported to have crashed at the north end of Radcliffe Road where it makes a sharp turn to the east at the rear of Parkway School.

A police spokesman said the suspect had been taken into custody at the scene.

It is the second high speed chase involving Nassau police this week. The first took place on Monday on the Southern State Parkway in Farmingdale. It ended with the crash of a Nassau police car. It's officer was badly hurt in the crash and the suspect's vehicle got away.

However, that car was a grey Honda. The Plainview crash involves a Saab, police said.

The condition of the driver could not be learned. Patch will follow this story as information becomes available.
