Plainview Firefighters Free Badly Hurt Man from Wreck

Victim airlifted to NUMC; 9:30 p.m. crash on Winding Road in Old Bethpage.

Plainview firefighters worked feverishly to free a trapped man from the wreckage of his auto Tuesday night after the car crashed into a pole in Old Bethpage.

The unidentified man was badly hurt in the one-car crash on Winding Road, near Round Swamp Road, shortly before 9:30 p.m. Plainview firefighters, using the "Jaws of Life" and multiple hydraulic tools, removed the car's roof and freed the man from the crumpled car.

The driver was transported by ambulance to the nearby Nassau County Fire Service Academy where a landing zone was set up. A Nassau County Police Helicopter then airlifted the victim to Nassau University Medical Center, firefighters said.

The man's condition could not be learned.

Scores of Plainview firefighters responded to the scene, where First Deputy
Chief Ross Dubner was in charge of the extrication. was in command of the overall operation at the scene.

Nassau police were on the scene, conducting an investigation into the cause of the wreck.
