Plainview Firefighters Respond to Two Afternoon Crashes

Four people hurt in separate incidents hours apart on busy day for firefighters.

Four people suffered minor injuries Thursday afternoon in two separate car Plainview crashes a few hours apart and less than a half-mile away.

and Nassau Police units responded to a late-afternoon collision between a car and a United States Postal Service truck at the intersection of Elmwood Street and Audrey Avenue, authorities said.

Both the driver of the car and the USPS driver sustained minor injuries. Fire fighters applied speedy dry to a fluid spill, firefighters said.

Earlier Thursday, firefighters and Nassau Police units responded to a crash in front of Woodbury Plaza on South Oyster Bay Road, where a car and van collided.

The collision forced the van off the roadway and into three cars parked in the shopping plaza's lot.

The van's driver, who was confined to a wheelchair, was freed from his specialized vehicle within minutes of the colission. Both drivers suffered minor injuries, and the road was closed during the operation.

The day proved to be a busy one for Plainview firefighters. Earlier Thursday, units were called to assist fighting a .
