Plainview Man Charged in DWI Crash

He's arrested after one-car crash on Southern State Parkway.

A Plainview man was charged with drunk driving following a one-car crash on the Southern State Parkway early Thursday.

State Police responded to the crash shortly after 1 a.m. involving a Honda Civic on the eastbound side of the Southern State, near exit 21 (Nassau Road.) While interviewing the driver, police said they detected a strong odor of alcohol.

They arrested the driver, Carlos Merlos, 21, of Plainview, after noticing slurred speech and other indications of drinking, state police said. Merlos failed field sobriety tests as well. He was arrested and charged with DWI, state police said.

Merlos was being held for arraignment on the charges before Nassau County Court, state police said.
