Water Main Break Disrupts Traffic on OCR

The overnight break flooded Old Country Road at Gerhard Road; one eastbound lane was closed for the duration of repairs.

Two early morning water breaks on Old Country Road have left behind lane closings and dangerous driving conditions at a main Plainview crossroad.

The Plainview Water District was called to the first break around 2 a.m. , which was quickly repaired, and then another at 5 a.m. on Old Country at Gerhard Road. The latter is at a major intersection near Plainview Hospital and the Plainview Fire Department's headquarters. Work crews were still at that location shortly before 3 p.m.

The right eastbound lane of Old Country Road was closed for the duration of the repairs. Icing conditions are possible on the road surface and traffic delays are likely.

A spokesman for the water district said the repairs are likely to continue for several more hours, due to the complexity of the problems in the ground. The hospital and other area homes and businesses are not affected, the spokesman said.
