Police Continue Probe into Menorah Vandalism

A private, outdoor menorah was destroyed on Gerhard Road in Plainview this week.

Nassau County police are continuing to probe the destruction of an outdoor Hanukkah menorah display removed from a private Plainview lawn and left shattered in the gutter.

Detectives with the Eighth Squad are describing the incident as but have not ruled out the possibility is a , a much more serious offense under state law, police said.

The menorah had been removed from the Gerhard Road home's lawn and smashed in the roadway. Its shattered ruins were discovered by the 76-year-old resident of the home. The electric holiday menorah was about four-feet high and three feet wide, police said.

The incident occurred earlier this week sometime between 11 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. Detectives ask anyone with information about the the vandalism to contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
