Customers in vicinity of Virginia Avenue lose power.

A swiftly moving storm knocked down tree limbs and power lines on the west side of Plainview Sunday, causing local outages.

Plainview firefighters responded to the late afternoon call at a home on Virginia Avenue and found the tangle of wires draped around cars and driveways, firefighters said.

A number of people lost power in the area for a time. Some traffic signals on South Oyster Bay Road went dark, as well.

I live around the corner from where this happened and I have to say they got us back our power fairly fast. Thanks LIPA

Thanks, Colleen. Were other neighbors impacted, to your knowledge?

We were coming home from the Yankee game and missed the storm by 5 minutes. The power lines were draped across the road and we had to turn around. Tree limbs were down everywhere. The fire department responded quickly and had the road blocked and everyone safe. LIPA did respond quickly and had the lines back up although the traffic lights were out for a few hours.

We live on the next block and we didn't lose power. I think it was the lines to the houses so only those houses were out of power.

If you look at the pictures the poles run along the opposite side of the street. Those look like the wires that run from the poles to the houses.
