Question of the Day: Plainview's Worst Intersections? (New Poll)

There have been a spate of bad accidents recently. What should be done? Which spots are the worst?

Last week Plainview saw a at the intersection of South Oyster Bay Road and Old County Road.

The same day, a and badly hurt on Woodbury Road.

And, all through the fall, the piled up in the area.

We recently reported that a will be installed at the notorious T-intersection of Washington Avenue and Manetto Hill Road.

What should be done about these intersections?

Which Plainview crossing is the most dangerous?

What do you think is responsible for these crashes?

And please, take our poll below. Your opinion will help us formulate a story planned for later this month.

i wouldn't say one is more dangerous than the other so much as which area has the worst drivers.

No dangerous intersections in Plainview but plenty of unsafe drivers passing through them but since you are asking us to select one I pick the intersection of Old Country Road and Manetto Hill Rd / Old Bethpage Rd.

The strip malls on South Oyster bay road that intersect Woodbury road. Why, because there is always an idiot that tries to shoot across SOB road to get to one mall from the other. It doesn't help that there are entrances directly across from each other. Add to it that the speed limit on SOB roab is too fast in my opinion and you get some real nasty collisions.

We need anorher traffic light outside the JOHNS FARM shopping center!!!!! There are accidents on that spot of old country road ALL the time!!!!

People are distracted and not careful- or just plain aggressive. We live just to south of plainview- at the bethpage border and there are always accidents at plainview rd and haypath. And there IS a traffic light. I don't think more lights are the answer...

I agree with Gregory...The intersection of Manetto Hill Rd/Old Bethpage Rd and Old Country Rd is the worst.

It's not the intersections, it's the selfish idiots with the "me first" attitude, disregarding the rules of the road, driving way too fast and jumping in front everybody else. When they surprize someone with their antics and they can't stop in time, bang, there's an accident. The worst new trick is making a left turn across oncoming traffic as soon as the light turns green. Why should driving be a blood sport?

Old Country Road/LaPiazza Parking Lot. There should be a NO LEFT TURN sign onto Old Country Road! There is a turn lane into SouthGate on the left and usually cars trying to make left onto OCR at same time. Accidents all the time!

I used to drive my daughter to high school and trying to make the left from Manetto Hill Rd. onto Washington Ave. was very difficult in the morning. Cars come shooting down Manetto Hill Rd. from Old Country Rd. Plus those cars get a right turn arrow onto Washington Ave. often leaving you stuck in the middle of the intersection after the light has changed. I found that it was far safer to turn right onto Guild Ct. That brings you to the intersection from directly across from Washington Ave. making it much easier to cross Manetto Hill Rd. with a green light.

What about Woodbury road by Marilyn Blvd? Accidents there all rhe time. A plainview boy was in an accident by a guy running the light on Wednesday night and is in ICU. The community should come together to have something done.

picking one its definitely the plainview centre area.. i live close and there is at least 5 a week. including last week with the man getting struck by the girl driving on wrong side of road.

alot of the problems are the people who think just because they can make a right on red they don't have to stop at all for the people with the green light coming from the other direction.

I want to thank all of you for participating and offering insights. You've given me some great ideas for the story I'm planning. I'll keep all of you posted.... Joe.

Entering and exiting the Harmon/LaPiazza shopping center all directions (to Old Bethpage Road AND to Old Country Road).

A basic lack of courtesy, not paying attention to driving(texting perhaps) and an apparent need to run the red lights seems to be the cause of most of the accidents
