Question of the Day: Route 135?

Since the holiday weekend, there have been three serious crashes on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway in the Plainview area. What's up?

Since the holiday weekend there have been three serious motor vehicle accidents on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway in the vicinity of Plainview.

One was a fatal crash involving a Massapequa man who police said had been drinking.

Then, Wednesday, Plainview firefighters responded to an overturned automobile involving four area teenagers. Fortunately, the young people suffered only minor injuries in the crash near the Wallace Drive exit.

Then, Thursday, police said another car flipped over near Exit 7 in Bethpage. Two people were raced to a local hospital in that incident, which occurred around 4:30 p.m. There conditions were unavailable early today.

Route 135 is a straight, three-laned highway, a quick, convenient path to the North or South Shore from Plainview. What do you think is going on? Is this just a bad stretch of luck? Or is something else an issue that we as a community need to address?

People drive too fast is the only explanation I would think is the common factor in these crashes.

Do 55mph in the right lane and see what happens around you.

People are driving way too fast on this straight away. They blow by me all the time and I am maintaining 60 mph in the center and/or right lane. Also - these moron drivers have no idea what a left lane is used for and they ride your bumber on the right lane ! Lets get some law enforcement to set up some speed drag nets and it will subside.

People just don't acre about traffic laws anymore. I see tons of people talking on phones while driving. Nobody stops at stops signs anymore. DWI is just as popular as ever. I really think the cops just go after the easy targets. I was pulled over 3 times in one day for a broken tail light. In that same day I almost got killed while I was passed on each side by 2 nuts drag racing on the Southern State. You want high insurance rates? You want to be hurt or killed? Keep it up Long Islanders!

Route 135 was originally designed to run up to Connecticut. That was cut short. Politics got in the way. Now its a bridge from one end Jericho turnpike to Merrick Road . 495 and Northern State Pkwy on one end and Southern State Pkwy and Sunrise hwy, Hempstead turnpike on the other end. A powerful strip on road. I see some police on there patrolling, but not enough. Recently, I saw a Town Of Oysterbay vehicle passing by me. I was going 60 mph and he passed me like I was standing still. This is real wrong. He was from Code Enforcement. They are not "police". The cops need to start being more proactive and not be reactive. We don't have enough police for the population. Their payscale is too high, so we have less police. If the parents don't respect the law, how do we expect their children too, It starts from the driving schools and then the parents who instill "their values".
