Question of the Day: Worst Parking Lots

Is it just us, or have the parking lots in Plainview become nightmarish?

What's up with the parking lots in Plainview?

Years ago, places like and the Woodbury Plaza didn't seem that hard to navigate. You could find a place to park easily and within a reasonable walk of your destination.

Lately, Patch has heard lots of complaints about nightmarish parking lot experiences at local strip malls, from Morton Village to . We also hear gripes about the two big ones on South Oyster Bay Road: and

Please weigh in on the subject and take our poll.

Have the parking lots gotten worse?

Are drivers worse?

Are there more cars and less spaces?

Which local parking lot is your least favorite?

the first thing that could be done is to get people to slow down , not park illegally , and ya know good old fashion kindness , people are so rude in the Plainview parking lots! its actually sickening ! I find the parking to be a bit crazy in most of our local parking lots but hey lots of cars that means the stores are doing well and thats important ..but the nature of people today is what really needs improvement not the parking lots.

They are crazy, I feel like I risk my life entering them and agree with Debbie the amount of rude people and fights I've witnessed is insane!

That Morton village lot is a nightmare. I've probably seen about 4 accidents in there in the past few years and more close calls than I can count.

It's not the parking lots - it's the people driving their car's in them.

It is not just the parking lots in Plainview that are horrible, it is also the drivers. Some people are just oblivious! I watched someone back into another car, and speed off. Some people just don't care, or really are that blind! It is really scary out there!

Morton Village plain old sucks, very bad layout, especially when you have people rushing to get a spot. They should actually put stop signs to increase safety. I can't count the number of times, I am backing up, more than half way out and I get an idiot zip behind me. I've started to go to ShopWrong late at night to get away from the idiots. Agree with Debbie that the attitudes are horrible and need quite a bit of improvement. As far as fights, I had some stupid a$$ teen driver curse me out for taking "her" spot, would of loved to have her get out of the car. Would of been nice to introduce her to some whoopA$$.

Great comments: What I don't understand is the need for some people to circle the lot repeatedly to find the "perfect" spot. I'd rather park away from all the cars and walk a little, and I don't like walking. But it just seems silly that people squabble over parking spaces.

I lived in Plainview for 30 years (1965-1995) and last visited in 2002. The traffic then was horrible and the drivers were absolutely the worst I had ever seen... Scary to think how it's gotten in the last 10 years...

Morton Village is worst of all. It is due to people's selfish attitudes thinking they are the most important people in the world and nobody else matters or exists in their world. From having to stop in front of store they are patronizing to just parking in handicapped spots or illegal spaces because they are to lazy and self involved to park legally.

The LIE 495. Biggest parking lot ever!!!
Marilyn March 06, 2012 at 01:02 PM
I can't even vote on the worst parking lot because they are all horrible. But as many agree, it's due to the people who drive into them!

There should be no left turns out of these parking lots in particular Crossroads onto Old Country Road. I have seen numerous accidents and near misses. There was a "No Left Turn" sign year ago. This would help diminish accidents significantly.

The parking lot at John's Farms is the worst. Gridlock during the weekend.

I have a suggestion and I hope someone from Morton Village properties will see this. If the parking stalls were all angled and the isles were only one way, the traffic mess would be eliminated. This way cars waiteng for a spot can stop and wait and other cars can go around them to keep the traffic flowing without fear of cars coming at them from the other direction. Think about it. It works

Fairway's parking lot is too small and is hard to get out at times.
Gone March 06, 2012 at 08:12 PM
@BB, good idea, but I don't think it will stop people from driving both way's unless there is some enforcement. Just like texting, talking on cell phones and going through stop signs at 30mph - if there is no enforcement it will not work.

I'm amazed at how many people feel the need to get into their cars and make a phone call as they're pulling out of the lot. If it's that important, sit there for a minute and make your call. The few times I've been forced to overhear the conversations, they're nonsense. Aside from the nightmarish parking lot conditions on their own, now you have all these people distracted on the phone as well.

Joe, going back to the parking situation. What businesses should do is have their employees park in a designated place not in the main parking lot. Maybe they can park in the back of the buildings. Leave more room for customers. Similar to how Atlantic City employees can't park in the casino garages.

AMEN BB!!!! I work at that Shoprite and have wondered about this for years. Also, there is a security company whose employees either park behind CV.S all day or hang out in front of the store. Maybe they could be taught to help direct traffic...just a suggestion

does anyone know if they have camera's in theparking lot at woodbury plazza near Trader Joes? Someone hit my car and of course left no note or anything and I am so mad that I want to see if there are camera's in the lot to find out who did it.
