School Bus Driver Pulls Over With Diabetic Attack

Cops: Kids aboard are safe because of driver's quick action; Incident took place on Manetto Hill Road.

An unidentified school bus driver suffering a diabetic attack pulled his bus load of passengers over safely and notified police for help Monday in Plainview.

The driver, who was not working for the Plainview school district, realized he was having a diabetic spell, pulled over and brought the bus to a safe stop on Manetto Hill Road about 9:30 a.m., Nassau Police said.

The driver then contacted 911 and Nassau County ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene. The children were not hurt, the driver is recovering, police said.

The Plainview Fire Department was not called to the incident.

Plainview school officials confirmed the bus was not carrying Plainview students, and had not heard anything of the incident.

Police said they did not know which school district or private entity was operating the bus.
