School District Holds Homeland Security Drill

The 'table-top' exercise Thursday in conjunction with a dozen local law-enforcement units, was designed to assess the district's response to a major emergency.

The held a joint exercise with emergency personnel last week to review current district safety programs.

The session, considered to be the area's first school-focused Homeland Security exercise, was designed to give the district and local emergency response teams an opportunity to review and assess its current concepts, safety and emergency plans, procedures, response capabilities and coordination abilities with local emergency services, school officials said.

Attending the table-top exercise in the district's boardroom Thursday included officials of the Homeland Security/Emergency Preparedness officials, Nassau County's Emergency Ambulance Bureau, Bureau of Special Operations (SWAT), Nassau County's Canine Unit, Hostage Negotiation Team, Nassau County's 2nd Precinct, Office of Emergency Management, Special Services Squad and others.
