Nassau Police arrested three people for a robbery that took place in Hicksville on Monday at 6:34 p.m.

Detectives say a 21-year-old man was talking with Alex Mercado-Silva, Jarrell Smith, Teresa Montagnino, at the rear parking lot of 20 West Village Green, when Mercado-Silva waved a gun at the victim, and demanded his Air Jordan sneakers. Smith demanded a cell phone and and the cash in his pockets, and the victim handed it over, according to police.

Mercado-Silva, Smith and Montagnino entered a 1999 Chrysler Sebring and left in unknown direction. Bureau of Special Operations officers located them and conducted a car stop at a Shell Gas Station at 3356 Jerusalem Avenue in Wantagh. During this time, officers recovered a black handgun from the vehicle, police say.

All three –  Mercado-Silva, 24, of 60 Grove Street, Massapequa; Smith, 20, of 47 Robert Avenue, Massapequa; and Montagnino, 16, of 6 4th Street, South Farmingdale – were placed in custody without incident.

They were charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree robbery. In addition, Mercado-Silva was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-criminal criminal possession of a weapon, and second-degree criminal use of a firearm.

All three defendants are scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Re: "...charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-criminal criminal possession of a weapon, and second-degree criminal use of a firearm." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- First degree, second degree, third degree crimes are understandable. But fourth degree stretches the imagination, and SEVENTH-DEGREE defies understanding of its purpose. Part of the reason for crime thriving, here, is our overly-lenient penal code. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Which came first? Too many criminals, or, too few jail cells?

Hey patch why is there a picture of the victim and no picture of the scumbags who committed this crime

Ohhhh sorry mercado-silva was the scumbag with the gun. Well he committed a crime with a gun he should be put to death!!! You want gun control this is the answer. There is no deterrent for committing a crime with a gun, you only get 20 years for murder, here lies the problem. Ps Eric holder your brace idea has to be the stupidest thing I ever heard criminals don't obey the law what a jerk apparently you never owned a gun but you want to make laws about guns???????

Boy o Boy this girl Teresa Montagnino of Farmingdale was involved in this robbery also shes only a sweet sixteen year old girl who is known around the neighborhood. Watch out you never no who your neighbors daughter is. What kind of parents does she have, she runs around with other criminals.Hopefully her family cannot make the bail and she stays in Jail until her case comes up and she is found guilty.
