With 10 Suspensions, Woman Faces New DWI Charge

CRIMES NEARBY: Fishkill driver stopped on Southern State with blood-alcohol 4 times legal limit, police say.

State and county authorities reported the following criminal and arrest information. An arrest is an accusation; it does not indicate guilt.

Massapequa

An Dutchess County woman was busted for driving drunk on the Southern State Parkway using a license that's been suspended more than 10 times, state police said.

Heidi Herring, 38, of Fishkill, was spotted traveling east on the Parkway near Hicksville Road in Massapequa. She was driving erratically, according to police.

Troopers were dispatched, and said they saw Herring making an unsafe exit at Route 109 in Farmingdale where she was stopped. She failed a sobriety test and produced a breath sample of  0.32 Blood Alcohol Concentration, four times the legal limit of 0.08, police said.

Herring was charged with driving while intoxicated and felony aggravated unlicensed operation for having more than 10 suspensions.  She also faces several traffic violations.

Farmingdale

Suffolk County Police are seeking a man who stole a piece of equipment last week worth $18,000 from an East Farmingdale pharmaceutical company.

Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives said a detection unit from a pill counting machine was taken.

They said that at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, a man entered the back of LLC, at 226B Sherwood Ave., took the unit and left the building.

East Meadow

A Hicksville man was arrested last week and charged Thursday for his role in a string of 2010 burglaries, including one at in East Meadow.

According to police, on Sept. 5, 2010, Peter Marchese, 20, along with two other people, entered the Citgo gas station at 400 Broadway in Hicksville at 12:30 a.m. by breaking the glass to the front door. They allegedly stole beer and cigarettes from the racks before moving on to another Hicksville Citgo at 1 Barter Lane at 1 a.m.

The threesome allegedly broke the glass to the front door at this Citgo as well so they could take more drinks and cigarettes from this location.

After stealing from the two gas stations, police say the trio moved on to Johnny 5's Bar and Grill in East Meadow They pried open a rear door and removed cash and coins from the register, police said.

Marchese was identified through DNA from blood recovered at the scene of the burglaries, police said.

North Hills

A Williston Park woman was arrested on DWI and other charges after police officers observed her failing to remain in a single lane of traffic on Searingtown Road in North Hills late Saturday night.

According to police, Maria Hamilton, 37, was driving a 2005 Nissan Sentra when officers stopped her. Police reported that Hamilton appeared to be intoxicated and officers placed her under arrest. During the arrest, a 1-year-old girl was found in the back seat of the vehicle.

Hamilton is being charged with Aggravated Driving while Intoxicated, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and other traffic violations. She will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
