Woman Accused of Knifepoint Doughnut Heist in Bethpage

Cops: Westbury woman demands cash at 7-Eleven, flees only with pastries.

A knife-wielding woman entered a 7-Eleven in Bethpage Monday morning and demanded cash but only made off with a box of doughnuts, Nassau County Police said.

Karma N Kargl, 34, of Westbury, entered the 7-Eleven on Hempstead Turnpike  about 2:30 a.m. Monday and placed a box of doughnuts on the counter in front of the male sales clerk. Kargl then drew a knife and demanded money, police said.

But the sales clerk walked away from Kargl and into a rear storage room. Kargl  took off with the box and fled the store with nothing else, police said.

Kargl was seen fleeing in a blue sedan east on Hempstead Turnpike. A police investigation led detectives to her residence in Westbury where she was placed in police custody without incident. No injuries were reported.

A Nassau police spokesman said he "didn't believe" the doughnuts were recovered.

Kargl is charged with first degree robbery and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon. She will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.
