Youths Rescued at Bethpage State Park

3 hospitalized after reports of intoxication.

Three youths were hospitalized Sunday after police and fire units rescued them at Bethpage State Park.

Nassau County police and fire units from Bethpage, Plainview and other departments responded to reports that several youths were intoxicated and possibly unconscious in the woods.

All were eventually found after rescuers from police aviation units, and fire fighters using four-wheel drive vehicles, mountain bikes and quads searched the woods for more than an hour.

There was no immediate word on the condition of the youths.

Minutes after the rescuers left how come there were nearly full open bottles of beer at the top of the hill near playing children? I saw them, they were Sam Adams. They should have discarded them so they don't have to go after intoxicated children again.

If the rescuers had truly cared about children being intoxicated then they should have disposed of any alcohol in the area, especially opened bottles that are full and left unattended. Alcohol isn't even allowed in the park after all.

I think the rescuers were more interested in getting the boys help than in cleaning up the area. It seems that there were more than enough concerned citizens around to make sure that nothing was left behind to harm anyone else. Instead of complaining, how about a "Thank You" for a job well done!

Some of the parents of these children are claiming it was an "innocent rite of passage - ALL 14 year olds are going to drink" Not ALL 14 years olds wind up in a pool of their own vomit, in a park, with rescue teams searching for them!! I hope these parents still feel the same way when they have to foot the bill for the ambulances, and search helicopter. Will their insurance cover that? As a taxpayer, I sure dont want to pay for it! Watch your children, set limits, know where they are!!!

"innocent rite of passage - ALL 14 year olds are going to drink" - And that's the problem with parents today.

Light weights.....its sad that the only legal drug our children can experiment with is alcohol...the most hardcore drug out there,,,within 1 use some really bad and deadly things can happen using that drug alcohol....Just smoke some weed kids...eat some junk food, and watch a movie....Alcohol is so accepted in society...that even mother against drunk driving are not against drinking,,but against drinking and driving...Drink all you want kids..just have a designated driver...very strange times we live

The definition of STOP in the driving world is " the complete cessation of movement".Read More Sound like many people think STOP signs mean 1. Slow To Observe Police or 2. Slightly Touch On (brake) pedal. Time to go to traffic school online at www.oltep.com. Relearn what you forgot from Driver's Ed. Stay Safe

Stop means stop. Just like stop signs, where it seems like the local definition is to slow down toRead More 30 mph. You STOP, and look. Then go. I have seen kids having a tough time crossing Jamaica Ave because of this twisted definition of STOP. If anything, this is a good way to relearn what should of been taught in drivers ed. When I moved to Plainview, people at a stop sign would signal the driver that got there first to go. Now it's a race to the stop sign and fly by it to avoid having the other guy go first.
