Hearing on Wang Property Postponed

Developer agrees to allow more time for community questions.

The public hearing scheduled for Monday about the future development of the Wang property has been postponed, Oyster Bay officials announced Wednesday.

The meeting was scheduled to consider a change of zone for a proposed development by Country Pointe at Plainview. As with previous plans for the property owned by Charles Wang, controversy and questions were swirling throughout the Plainview community.

Town Supervisor John Venditto said the meeting has been "indefinitely postponed."

“Over the past few weeks, residents in the immediately impacted area of Plainview have reached out to me to request additional time to review the application by Plainview Properties, LLC, and make their comments, prior to the public hearing for the proposed development..." Venditto said.

Venditto met with the applicant they were "very understanding and accommodating, and has agreed to indefinitely postpone the scheduled public hearing, until such a time as the community’s questions are answered,” Venditto said.

The property is being developed by the Jericho-based Beechwood Organization, which is calling it "Country Pointe at Plainview." The plan is to build  a "mixed use" development on the land that would include 890 multi-family housing units. There is also a commercial component to the plan.

The Town Board meeting for that evening has been cancelled. The next town board meeting will take place as scheduled, on Tuesday, May 7, at 10 a.m. in the hearing room of Town Hall East, located at 54 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay.
