It's Independence Day: What's Closed; Open

July 4th celebrates the birth of the nation

Today is Independence Day, commonly called "The 4th of July," which is the celebration of the birth of our nation in 1776.

All federal, state and local offices are closed. Banks and other financial institutions, including the stock markets, are closed.

There is no postal service today.

Lots of retail stores are open. Many supermarkets are open as well, but generally on shortened hours. 

In the Town of Oyster Bay, including Plainview, there is no garbage pickup Monday. Collection will be delayed a day.

But, as always, police and firefighters are working the holiday. The Nassau County Police Department and the volunteers of the Plainview Fire Department will show up if you need them. They're on the job Monday.
