Jacobs: Enhanced STAR Program Has Eligibility Change

There is an eligibility change for the Enhanced STAR program, officials say.

The Enhanced STAR income level has been increased from $81,900 to $83,300 for the 2015-2016 filing year, according to Leg. Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury). Eligibility in 2015 is based on income information from the 2013 tax year.

To qualify for Enhanced STAR exemptions, residents must be 65 years of age or older, and earn an annual income of $83,300 or less. For jointly owned property, only one spouse or sibling must be at least 65 by Dec. 31 of the year when the exemption will begin. Furthermore, the income limit applies to all owners, and any owner's spouse who resides at the property.
