LIPA Reports Widespread Outages

Plainview area among those affected as fierce storm blows down power lines.

The Long Island Power Authority has reported more than 50 power outages in Nassau and Suffolk counties affecting thousands of its customers, including about 100 customers in the Plainview area.

Most of the Plainview-area outages are isolated in Old Bethpage, where 70 customers were affected as of 2 a.m. Power is expected to be restored in Plainview and Old Bethpage by morning, LIPA reports.

The outages, scattered across rain-battered Long Island, were being reported early Thursday morning in West Hills, Jericho, Glen Cove, Massapequa and Hicksville, authorities said. Unless conditions deteriorate further, LIPA expects service to return by morning to these locations.
