LIRR Delays Expected Through Evening

Derailed Amtrak train in East River tunnel cancels 20 trains

Trains have been canceled and delays are expected during Monday's LIRR evening rush as a result of Sunday’s Amtrak derailment in one of the East River tunnels.

That means that Plainview area passengers traveling on the two main rail branches through Hicksville station may face delays Monday night.

Of the 126 trains normally operating during the p.m. rush, 20 eastbound trains from Penn Station will be canceled and combined with other trains, which the MTA warns will result in trains being crowded.

Customers should allow extra travel time and expect at least 10-20 minute delays during the evening rush. Stopping patterns on some trains may change, so customers should listen for announcements or consult station signage. The trains that do run are expected to be crowded.

Amtrak said it is working on the problem.
